2016 - What a Crock! Crockpot Cook-off for Cancer Care.

On Saturday, February 27th, 2016, the first major fundraiser of the year was hosted by the Keyport Dragon Boat Team to raise money for the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival's charitable partner, Essentia Health's Cancer Survivorship Program. The event was a delicious success!

An estimated 1,800 samples of 20 different crockpot creations were provided by 17 separate contestants and consumed by event atendees. Participants sampled and judged the event (often going back for seconds of their favored crockpot creation). In addition, atendees had the opportunity to bid on numerous silent auction items.

Following the sampling portion of the event between 3 and 6 pm an awards and after party was held inside of Superior Sands Bar & Grill. First place winners received $100 cash and second and third places received Super One Foods gift certificates valued at $75 and $50 resectively. The winners were:

A special thanks to Super One FoodsSuperior Sands and Mariner Retail and Business Center for hosting this "What A Crock! Crockpot Cook-off for Cancer Care" event. Thanks also to everyone who entered as a cook; those who attended the event, sampled, judged the cook-off, and bid on silent auction items. A big thanks also goes to Kicking Rocks for providing great music at the after party and to all of the businesses who generously donated silent auction items.

Following the success of this first time event plans are already being bandied about for a second annual event in 2017. Plans for additional fundraisers are also in the works.
